CADETS SPOIL YOE HOMECOMING, 40-15

(CAMERON)  For the 4th straight week, the 2003 Yoemen fell in a big way, as the Waco Connally Cadets spoiled Homecoming at Yoe Field, with a 40-15 win.  Amanda Ryza was crowned Homecoming Queen during homecoming festivities.

The Yoemen opened Friday's game with an impressive opening drive that gave them an early 7-0 lead.  The Yoemen drove 83 yards on that drive, capped by a 22-yard Shane Taylor run, but Waco Connally seemed unimpressed, as they reeled off 40 unanswered points before the Yoemen would get on the board again late in the 4th quarter.

The Cadets led 13-7 at half-time, but exploded in the 3rd quarter for a pair of touchdowns to build a commanding 26-7 lead headed into the 4th quarter.

The Cadets improved to 3-0 on the year with Friday's win, as a trio of Cadet players scored two touchdowns each.  Joe Alford, Taurean Williams and DeMarcus Gidding each scored for the Cadets.  Alford led all rushers in the game, with 133 yards and two scores on just 7 carries for the night, while quarterback, Lance Lofton threw for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Yoe defense.  Shane Taylor led the Yoemen on the night with 64 yards on 6 carries and a touchdown.

The Yoemen got back on the board in the 4th quarter, when Senior, Jerrell Smith hauled in a 26-yard Kendrick Pinchback TD pass.  After a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty on the play, the Yoemen converted a two-point try when Pinchback hit sophomore Derrick Evans on a pass to the end zone.

Friday's loss drops the Yoemen to 0-4 on the year, and they will shoot for their first win of the year September 25th when they travel to Giddings for the final pre-district game of the year.  District 18-3A play begins Friday, October 10th at Yoe Field, when the Yoemen host the Caldwell Hornets.
