(Cameron)  Around 80 people attended a public meeting last night in Cameron, hosted by the Texas Department of Transportation.  The meeting was held to gain final input from the public, and to display rights-of-way affected by the Highway 36 widening project from the Highway 77 intersection in Cameron to the Highway 77 intersection South of Cameron.

Bob Appleton, Director of Transportation, Planning and Development, said the purchase of right-of-way will begin within the next several months.  Construction could begin within 3 years and is expected to take several years to complete.

Advanced Planning Engineer Chad Bohne said he project includes widening the underpass to four lanes, and the construction of two double-lane bridges across Little River.  (Bohne statement)

9 to 10 Thousand vehicles travel this section of Highway 36 daily.  TxDot projects that within 20 years the traffic will increase to 13 to 14 Thousand vehicles daily.
