 Cousins Remain Critical
Following Thursday Night Wreck
(CAMERON)    Two Cameron residents, Stephanie and J.J. Urban remain in critical condition today (Saturday) at Temple's Scott & White Hospital following Thursday night's car crash.  Stephanie and J.J., cousins and both 18, were transported by Mediva helicopters following the wreck that killed 18 year old Jerry Scott Proctor of Cameron.  Stephanie, who is 4 months pregnant, suffered extensive internal chest injuries while J.J., the driver of the car, suffered head and other internal injuries.   Another passenger, Larry Neighbors, also of Cameron, was treated and released following the wreck.

Police are awaiting blood tests to see if alcohol was a contributing factor. Tests are expected back sometime next week.  Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to determine if the teens had been drinking,  and if so, where the alcohol was obtained.  Investigators estimate that the camaro was traveling in excess of 100 MPH when it left the road.

According to Cameron Police Officer Will Anderson, J. J. Urban was driving the 2000 Camaro convertible at a high rate of speed, headed south on FM 2269 when he failed to negotiate the curve near the Highway 36 intersection.  The car left the road, traveled some 150 yards before crashing through a fence and striking the apartment unit.  Anderson said Neighbors was out of the vehicle when police arrived, however, the other three teenagers were trapped in the vehicle.    The Accident was reported just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday.  Officers Will Anderson, Terry Drummond and Chris Stringer investigated.  Cameron Fire Rescue and EMS units also responded.   One of the Apartment units was occupied, however no one in the apartment was hurt.

Proctor  is the 15th fatality for Milam County This year.   He is the 3rd for the city of Cameron this year.  Two men, 27 year old Adolpho Comacho Gutierrez of Cameron, and Albert Gomez, 37 of Rockdale were killed in an auto/train accident here in Cameron in June of this year.  (See story)
