Fun, Food, Fellowship, and a Few Tears

(CAMERON)  The "100 year old man" Scott Brookshire of Temple spoke of heritage and the cost of our freedom during the 68th annual Cameron Chamber of Commerce Banquet Tuesday.  Brookshire, who has presented his program on Heritage all over the state, said he got the idea after finding notes his father left behind, about his childhood at the turn of the century.  Brookshire also talked of our cost of freedom and offered two stories relating to the Vietnam War.

Chamber awards highlighted Tuesday's banquet.  The Outstanding Chamber Member Award was given to Michael Shelton.  Citizen of the Year is Mayor James Lafferty.  Organization of the Year is the Cameron Industrial Foundation.  And Outstanding Volunteer is Bud Riola.

The Chamber recognized retiring directors Rob Reed, Jeannie Orsag and John Egger.  Also introduced were new Chamber Director Earlene Cloudt and New Chamber President Melanie Shuffield. 

2002 Chamber Directors are Melanie Shuffield, President.  Jeannine Dohnalik, Past President. Margia Barkemeyer, Jason Barton, Al Dobos, Franci Denio, Gary Fuchs, Ken Harriss, Carolyn Hux, Glenn Laurence, Jim Shaw, Janet Sheguit, and Mike Shelton.

Past President Jeannine Dohnalik said 2001 was a good year with the new City Hall, the courthouse restoration, the new Citizens National Bank parking lot and the new First National Bank Drive-Thru.

On behalf of San Andres Lodge, Franklin Glaser was presented the Community Builder’s Award during last night’s banquet.

Jerry and Agnes Kostroun catered the evening meal, and Sharon Murrah provided music. 

Michael Shelton received the Outstanding Chamber Member award

Mayor James Lafferty received the Citizen of the Year award

Ken Harriss accepted the Outstanding Organization of the Year award on behalf of the Cameron Industrial Foundation.

Bud Riola received the Outstanding Volunteer award.

Jerry and Agnes Kostroun catered an evening meal of beef and chicken
