CAMERON ISD VOTERS VALIDATE BOND PACKAGE |
(CAMERON) In a campaign that has been on-going for 10 years, board President Gene Vaculin graciously thanked the voters of the Cameron Independent School District today for approving a finance plan that will see the completion of a construction program for the district. In a busy day at the polls, voters approved the $15 million bond package by a vote of 793 to 682. The vote represents 54% for and 46% against, thus paving the way for a new Cameron ISD high school complex. A total of 1475 votes were cast in the election. Cameron voters first approved a $6.5 million construction plan in 1993 for a new Elementary and Jr. High School. That project was followed by a $9 million project to build a new Primary school and High School gymnasium. With the passing of today's bond election, the district will complete a $30.5 million construction program. Additional gifts of up to $4.5 million from alumni could push the total construction to $35 million. The local tax burden cannot exceed .50 cents per $100 valuation, however with two sources of state funding possible for the $15 million bond issue, the rate could drop to as low as 30 cents. The current rate is just under 13 cents. |
