GUNFIRE ERUPTS DURING CHASE ACROSS 3 COUNTIES

(LEXINGTON)  Milam County Law officers assisted in the apprehension of a suspect that led officers on a 3-county chase that ended in Lee County just south of Lexington.  The Milam County Sheriff's Department received a call from Lee County just after 7 p.m. requesting all available officers to assist.     Bryan and Austin DPS also made calls to Milam County.

The incident began following a hit and run in Caldwell County where the suspect driving a Semi Tractor registered out of Iowa, reportedly hit two vehicles and fled.  While in pursuit, the suspect fired at officers who returned fire.   The suspect drove the rig from Bastrop to near Lexington on rims after officers shot out the front two tires.    The rig caught fire and the rig stopped just south of Lexington on Hwy 77.  Milam County Deputy Phillip Anelli assisted with one other officer in removing the suspect from the rig.   Officers used high pressure water from a fire hose to pen the suspect in the cab.  More than 50 law officers were involved in the chase.  Local officers assisting were Cameron Police Officers Wes Male, Joe Reyna and Brad Pepper.  Milam County Deputies Greg Kouba, Phillip Anelli, Lee Dixon, Chief Deputy Ted Retchloff, Sheriff Charlie West, Trooper Michael Nix and Falls County Game Warden Malcom Wilkes.
