State Champs...Nuff Said!

(ABILENE)   The Cameron A's won 4 straight games during the TTAB Midget League State Tournament this week to claim the state championship.    The A's opened the tournament

A's Zach Brashear earns the win shutting out the Rogers Reds in the championship game.

Monday with a 21-2 win over Milford in a game that ended after 3 1/2 innings.  The A's advanced to the second round of the winner's bracket Tuesday defeating Bangs 11-0 in 4 innings.   The drama came in the third round Wednesday when the A's met up with the S. E. Houston Astros, also undefeated in tournament play.  After battling to a 1-1 tie through 5 innings, the Astros scored 3 runs in the top of the 6th to take a 4-1 lead.  But the A's would not be denied, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the final frame to hand the Astros their first loss of the season.

Meanwhile, the Rogers Reds, who were battling back in the loser's bracket after losing their first round game to the Astros, would face the Houston team again Wednesday night for a chance to advance to the championship game Thursday.  The Reds jumped ahead early and held on for a 4-3 win earning a right to face the Cameron A's in the finals.

The championship game provided little drama as the A's were too much for the Reds who were playing their 6th game of the tournament.  The game was called after 5 innings when Ty Morgan rapped a game-ending 3-RBI single that gave the A's a 10-0 lead.

The Cameron A's lost only 1 regular season game, and went undefeated in both the District and State Tournaments.
