CAMERON MAN BECOMES MILAM'S 5TH TRAFFIC FATALITY

(CAMERON)   A 1-vehicle accident that occurred Friday has resulted in Milam County’s 5th traffic fatality of the year.  John Arthur Looney, 78 of Cameron died Sunday from injuries sustained in an auto accident Friday a mile north of Ben Arnold on Hwy 77.  Investigating Trooper Michael Nix said Looney was a passenger in a car driven by his wife Bobbye Looney that was southbound on Hwy 77.  Nix said the car left the roadway and entered the southbound bar ditch where it struck a culvert and then traveled 90 feet through the air before striking the ground.  The car then crossed both lanes of traffic and entered the north bound bar ditch.  Nix said he and EMT’s were talking to Mr. Looney at the scene, and was surprised to learn Sunday that Looney had died from injuries sustained in the accident.   Looney reportedly suffered a spinal cord injury in the accident.  He and his wife were transported to Scott & White by ground EMS.  The wreck happened shortly before 2 p.m. Friday.  Looney died Sunday.

Private Funeral services are planned for a later date with Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
