ONE KILLED AND 2 INJURED NEAR ROGERS

(ROGERS)  One person was killed and 2 were injured yesterday in a head-on collision near the Rogers’ railroad underpass Friday afternoon.  Traffic stopped and detoured around the bridge after the head-on Collision on Hwy 36 had both lanes of traffic blocked for some 2 hours.

The driver of a 1986 Chevy 4-door car, Courtney Denise Gommert, 19 of Buckholts, was pronounced dead at the scene.   Investigators said her car crossed the center stripe on Hwy 36 and struck a 2001 Dodge pick-up head-on.

Both occupants in the pick-up, Florida residents Timothy Brizendine, 49 and Brandon Brizendine, 14 were transported to Scott & White Hospital in Temple in Stable Condition.  Timothy suffered injuries to his left leg while Brandon suffered neck and back injuries.

All three involved were wearing seat belts.

Ms. Gommert was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Ahrendt at 3:15PM Friday.  Her body was taken to Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron where services will be held this morning.

Ms. Gommert became the 5th Milam County Traffic Fatality of the year, the 3rd in April and 2nd in less than a week.   Benjamin Travis Hamilton died Thursday from injuries sustained in an accident on April 23rd just south of Cameron at the “Y” intersection of Highways 36 and 77.
