Summer 2007
(CAMERON) It is that time of year again, when we all start looking for those fresh home grown fruits and vegetables. If you grow your own produce and have an abundance of fruits and vegetables; you are invited to participate in the Annual downtown Farmer’s Market. The Farmer’s Market is held every Tuesday and Friday during the summer from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon or until sold out on the Downtown Mall.

An account has been established at Citizens National Bank in Cameron to help the Pete and Mary Miller family who lost their home and belongings in the flood on July 14th. Donations can be made to the account at Citizens National Bank in Cameron in care of Pete and Mary Miller.

Registration for Cameron Fall baseball for ages 9 and under is coming up. The fall league will be played as coach-pitch. For registration information call Larry Moore, 254-482-0489

August 15
On August 15th, the state of Texas will pay official tribute to the many Texans who served with unquestionable distinction and valor in the most devastating conflict mankind has ever experienced---World War II. Over 83,000 Texas men and women proudly served our nation in WWII, and over 22,000 of those Texans gave their lives in ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
The formal dedication ceremony for Texas World War II Memorial will be held Wednesday, August 15th at 10 a.m. on the state Capitol grounds, immediately outside the East entrance to the Texas Supreme Court Building. All WWII veterans, their families and friends, and indeed any Texan wishing to help honor these heroes, are invited to attend.

August 15-17
Granger I.S.D... Registration for Pre-K and Kindergarten students will be August 15-17 from 9AM-3PM each day. Only new students to the Granger ISD in grades 1-5 will register August 15-17 from 9AM-3PM. Parents are asked to bring the Childs birth certificate and immunization record the day of registration.

August 26th
SS Cyril and Methodius Church will hold their Annual Homecoming Picnic on Sunday August 26th in Marak Seven miles northwest of Cameron on FM road 2269. Mass will begin at 10:15 AM, Dinner at 11 Am, and games will start at Noon. Home Fried Chicken and Sausage will be served with all the trimmings. Meal tickets are $7.00 each, and plates will be available to go. Serving begins at 11 Am and will continue to be served until all is gone. Musical Entertainment will be provided by the Vrazel Polka Band from 12:30 to 3:30 PM. Auction will be held at 4 PM.

September 22
The Westphalia Knights of Columbus Council #13902 will be hold a fund raiser on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the Westphalia Parish Hall.
It will be Rib eye Steak Dinner, Dance with music by the Route 4 Band and a Silent Auction. The meal will start at 6 pm followed by the dance and silent auction. Tickets are $25.00 per person and can be obtained from James Kahlig @985-2315 or Ken Driska @584-2050 or any Knights of
Columbus member. Public is invited.

Enrollment for GED classes is getting underway. Classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8PM at Yoe High in Room 122. If you would like to enroll or would like more info, contact Karen at 697-8926 or 697-2381.

Tuesdays & Fridays of each week the Farmer's Market is in Downtown Cameron will open- For those of you who grow your own produce and have an abundance that you would like to share join us for the Farmer's Market on Tuesdays and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until noon or until you sell out. This will last through out the growing season. For more questions, contact the Chamber office at 254-697-4979.

Tuesdays and Thursdays
ESL classes are now being offered at Cameron YOE High School through a ESC Region 6 federal program. Classes are given from 6-8:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Anyone interested in registering for the classes (or if you know of someone that could benefit from the class) can contact Roy Martinez at 697-6858 for information.

Cameron ISD is asking citizens over 65 years old that don't have a Senior Yoemen Club Card and want one, call Maxie Morgan at 697-3512 to make arrangements for taking their picture and obtaining a card. The Senior Yoemen Card will allow you to come to any Cameron ISD sponsored extra-curricular event free of charge. For questions or information, call Superintendent Morgan at 697-3512.

Once a month the Senior Citizens Group in Milano sponsors a Country Jamboree at the senior center in Milano. There is no charge and refreshments are served for a nominal fee. The event takes place the final Saturday of each month at 7:00PM.

The Scott & White Blood Center is in urgent need of type A blood. The donor center is located in room 115 across form the McLane Dining Room. Hours are Monday -Thursday 9am-6pm. and on Friday 9am-2pm. Call 254-724-HERO or 877-724-HERO. This month donors receive a long sleeve shirt, a squeezie ball, a Blood Bowl point, free rose or $5 discount from Precious Memories, and a chance to win a 2-screen 7-inch car DVD player with controller and games. If you can't donate, recruit 2 people to donate for you and Scott and White will give each of you a shirt and a chance to win the gift card.

Standards of Care will be at Bea's Kitchen, at 101 East Main Street, at 10:30am on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month for free blood sugar and blood pressure checks.
