Upcoming Deadline for 4-Hers

Milam County Awards County 4-H Recognition Award applications (Rookie, Honor Roll, 4-
H All Star, 4-H Letterman) can be submitted with the recordbook or anytime prior to October 1.
These 4-Hers will be recognized at the annual award banquet in November.

Annual 4-H Re-Enrollment or Enrollment
It's that time of the year again... Annual Re-Enrollment. The start of the new 2007 -2008 4-H
year will begin September 1, 2007. 4-H Enrollment forms must be filled out on a yearly basis.
4-H enrollment forms can be found at the county website or your 4-H Club Manager. Notice, 4-
Hers who haven't filled out and returned their 2007 - 2008 4-H Enrollment will no longer receive
a 4-H Newsletter and will be removed from our enrollment. Also, if you are planning on
exhibiting an animal our office must have a current (2007 - 2008) enrollment form.

Grand Slam Prices for 4-H
The Texas 4-H Foundation is proud to announce that both the Astros and the Texas Rangers are
offering special 4-H Grand Slam Prices this summer for 4-H Members, their families, friends,
Alumni, and Supporters of Texas 4-H. There are special prices for both Groups and Single
Tickets. A portion of the proceeds benefit Texas 4-H.
Certain dates have been designated as "Special Texas 4-H nights" which will include on field
presentations. Those dates are as follows: Texas Rangers - August 25th, Astros - August 25th
Please show your support to Texas 4-H and help fill the seats at both the BallPark and Minute
Maid Park this summer.






County Photography Contest for Junior & Intermediates - Due September 14, 2007
Senior photos will be due February 22, 2008.
The County and District Photography contest for Juniors and Intermediates has been moved to
the fall. The District photos will be displayed at the Heart of Texas Fair in Waco, the week of
October 5 - 13, 2007. Please note the following rules and changes:

County photography contest - photos due to the Extension Office by September 14th.
It is to your advantage to submit an 8" X 10" mounted photo for judging purposes. If you submit
anything other than the 8" X 10" photo you will be responsible for picking up your photo by
September 21st and return the photo by September 25th.

A complete photo entry shall also include:
Name of 4-Her, age division, category, class, and county on the back. A label is available
at the Extension Office.
Photo placed in a zip lock bag.
The 2008 State 4-H photography rules should be available on the Texas 4-H Website:
http://tx4-h.tamu.edu/photography/ . For more information or questions, please contact the
Extension Office.

County Food Show
When: Saturday, September 15, 2007 Registration time begins at 9:00 a.m.
Where: New Salem Building, Rockdale
Who: All 4-Hers interested in the project.
What Is A Food Show: If you like to cook, you need to display your favorite dish at the Milam
County 4-H Food Show. You bring a dish that you have prepared at home with a serving utensil.
A team of judges ask you questions about your dish.
How Do You Prepare for the Judges Questions: The Extension Office has a list of the questions
the judges will ask and information for you to study and find the answers. It is not that hard.
You can all have fun showing off your cooking talents.
How Do You Enter: Entry forms, Food Show Information, Questions, and Resources are on the
website and available at the Extension Office. Submit your entry form and recipe to the
Extension Office by September 14 so we can copy it for the recipe booklet. At the Food Show
we will assemble the books. If you wish to have your recipe and name in the book, please have
your recipe to the Extension Office by 5 p.m. on September 14. If you miss that deadline bring
50 copies of your recipe to the Food Show on the 15th.

Jacket and Patch Order Due
August 17 is the deadline for ordering patches and jackets. 4-Hers wanting to order patches for
their jacket or blanket as well as 4-Hers who earned a first place state honor this year need to
contact the Extension Office for more information. The patch order form is enclosed in this
newsletter. DO NOT MISS THE DEADLINE.

2007 - 2008 State 4-H Technology Team Applications
Due - September 15, 2007
What: Allows members to gain knowledge in web design, graphic design, GIS/GPS experiences,
pod casting, and computer applications. Responsibilities are: commitment of time to the team,
meet 2 -3 times a year, respond to e-mails on a regular basis, chat on the on-line bulletin board,
willing to help at state events (Roundup, Congress, 4-H Center events), and 8 - 12 AIM chats a
year.
Who: 4-Hers 14 - 18
Applications are available at the Extension Office.


Rockdale Fair October 18 - 20, 2007
Important Dates & Deadlines
Aug. 29 - Broiler Pick-up, 5-7 p.m. @ Fair Park
Sept 13 - Market Rabbit Tag-in, 5-7 p.m. @ Fair Park
Sept. 25 - Market Entries Due & Breeding Entries Due
Rockdale Fair rules and entry forms are now available at the Extension Office. 4-Hers are
responsible for reading the rules, there are several changes for this year's fair, so read your rules.

Major Show Lamb, Goat, and Swine Tags Order Information
Lamb & Goat
Deadline to order tags is August 15. Tags are usually $10.00 each. Animals must be validated in
order to show at all major shows. More information to follow.
Swine
Deadline to order tags is August 27. Tags are usually $10.00 each. More information to follow.

Major Show Broiler Orders Due - October 1
If you are planning on exhibiting broilers at the Houston Livestock Show, San Antonio or Star of
Texas Fairs & Rodeos the deadline for ordering birds is October 1, 2007. Please come by the
Extension Office to submit your order and payment. Chicks will cost $1 each and a minium of
75 birds per exhibitor.

State Fair of Texas
September 28 - October 21, 2007
Entries Due - August 10th
Entry forms and information is available at the Extension Office. Entries are due to the
Extension Office by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2007.

Heart of Texas Fair
October 5 - 13, 2007
Entries Due - September 5
Entry forms and information is available at the Extension Office. Entries are due at the
Extension Office by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept 5.

San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo
Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo
Fort Worth Livestock Show & Rodeo
Major show entry forms will be available at the Extension Office sometime in October. If you
are going to enter one of the shows listed above with animals or judging teams you must submit
entry forms by the deadline - Wednesday, November 9th. Contact the Extension Office for more
information.

If you are interested in scrambling for the Houston, San Antonio, Fort Worth and Star of Texas
Livestock Shows, contact the Extension Office prior to September 1.
