Commissioners Vote To Re-Bid Health Plans

Milam County Commissioners rejected all current health insurnace bids during a special meeting Friday, and rescinded a "letter of agent" agreement with Humana/PCA.  Commissioners then voted to go out for new bids to be opened March 22nd, with an effective target date of May 1st.

The "letter of agent" issue dominated the 20-minute session.  Commissioners felt the agreement inhibited the bid process earlier this year.  Milam County Judge Frank Summers said he had received reports that prospective bidders were

not given the claims history needed to submit bids.    (Summers statement)   Alvin Roberts, representing Camp Insurance, the agent for Humana/PCA, said the only thing the agreement prevents is other Humana PCA agents from submitting what he said would be the same bids.  Summers also said he was shown where Humana had alternate plans that would have been less expensive.  Roberts said he checked with the company and was told there were no other plans.  The "letter of agent" was instigated by Humana/PCA and pertained only to that company.
