MILAM RECORDS 6TH & 7thFATALITY OF 2004

(CAMERON)  Milam County recorded its 6th traffic fatality of 2004 this morning in a 2-vehicle accident on Highway 36 about 7 miles south of Cameron.  Peggy Wilkening, 80 of Somerville was pronounced dead at the scene, and her husband, Bruce, a passenger in the car, was transported by STAT-Air to Scott & White in Temple where he died around 12:20 this afternoon.  The car was westbound and crossed the center strop, striking the rear axle of an eastbound 18-wheeler driven by Juan Ogda of O’Donnell, Texas.  The collision knocked the rear axle and wheels off the trailer rig, disabling the 18-wheeler.  Cameron Fire Rescue and Scott & White EMS also responded.  Trooper Michael Nix investigated the accident.

Today’s fatalities are the 6th and 7th of 2004, and the 3rd wreck with multiple fatalities since the first of the year.  Two Brazos County men were killed in a head-on wreck with propane truck on Hwy 79 east of Milano January 15th(See story)  And two Yoe High Students were killed in pickup/train accident here in Cameron on January 27th. (See Story)  The other fatality involved a motorcycle wreck that killed a 12 year old Hearne boy on January 31st. (See story)
