INCUMBENTS REIGN IN MILAM COUNTY (CAMERON) Milam County District Attorney Kerry Spears was re-elected Tuesday avoiding a run-off election with 53.86% of the votes. Spears received 1695 votes while former Assistant District Attorney Bill Torrey received 1,032 votes and Norman Lanford 353 votes. Following her victory last night, Spears said she is looking forward to serving Milam County another 4 years. (Audio) In the contested race for Commissioner Precinct 1, Incumbent Clifford Whiteley was nominated with 52.21% of the votes receiving 532 while challengers Warren Hillman and Tom Lake received 359 and 92 votes respectively. Whiteley will now face Independent Gene Linn in the November General Election. Whiteley told KMIL News last night he appreciated his supporters. (Audio) Precinct 3 Commissioner Dale Jaecks was re-elected with 67.81% of the votes receiving 674 while his challenger H. Tommy Timmerman received 292 votes. Jaecks said he looks forward to working with constituents of Precinct 3 the next 4 years. (Audio) And in the contested race for Constable Precinct 3, H. L. “Herbie” Vaughn was elected with 565 votes beating out Roy Baggerly who had 344 votes. Other County offices that were on the ballot uncontested and elected were: District Judge Ed Magre, Sheriff Charlie West, County Tax Assessor Collector Doug Bryan, Precinct 1 Constable David Greene, Precinct 2 Constable Bennie Taylor Sr., and Precinct 4 Constable Giles Summerlin, Milam County Democrats favored John F. Kerry for President with 1514 votes There were no contested races or local candidates on the Republican Primary. 383 Republicans voted in the Primary. In the race for District 31 US Representative, Milam County Republicans favored John R. Carter with 230 votes. Only about 24.5% of the registered voters cast ballots in the March Primary Elections. There are 14,390 registered voters. 3147 democrats and 383 Republicans voted in the Primary. |
