(CAMERON) Former Yoe High Football standout Billy Pittman won’t be the only Yoe High graduate on the University of Texas Football field this fall. Through a rigorous two-day selection process the coaching staff with advisement from the current Orange Squad members have selected the new Texas Cheerleaders for the upcoming 2004-2005 season. Yoe High senior Amanda Ryza is one of the new Orange Squad members to cheer on the Longhorns this fall. There are primarily two cheerleading groups. The Orange Squad and the White Squad. The Orange Squad, of
which Amanda is a member, is a large coed, primarily composed of 10 males
and 10 females. Members primarily lead cheers at home football games,
men’s home basketball games. The squad also travels to out of town
football games and basketball tournaments and makes numerous appearances
on television and radio and at non-university functions as determined by
the Head Coach and the Associate Athletic Director. The White Squad is a small coed, primarily composed of 3 to 4 males and 15-20 females. The White Squad members primarily lead cheers at home football games, women’s home basketball games, women’s home soccer games, and women’s home volleyball games. The squad also travels to basketball tournaments and makes numerous appearances on television and radio and at non-University functions as determined by the Head Coach and the Associate Athletic Director. The Orange Squad tryouts is by invitation only. A 2-day tryout session was held this spring to assess the skills, abilities and potential of interested and qualified candidates for the cheer squad positions. Among her accomplishments on the football field her senior year, Amanda was also named Homecoming Queen (pictured right).
