TEMPLE MAN COMMITS SUICIDE FOLLOWING SHORT PURSUIT

(ROCKDALE)  A 23 year old Temple man shot and killed himself following a short pursuit by Rockdale Police early today.  Pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Chip Dunsmoor was Eli Emerson Miller.  

Officer Bobby Nelms stopped a 1996 Honda Civic for a speeding violation shortly before 1 o’clock this morning in the 500 block of East Cameron Avenue.  As Officer Nelms approached the vehicle, it sped away headed east on Hwy 79 toward Milano.  Officer Nelms pursued the vehicle about a mile and a half east of the Rockdale City Limits where Miller applied the brakes and swerved into the bar ditch.  He then immediately exited the vehicle and shot himself in the head with a 20 gauge shotgun.

Deputies Greg Kouba and Ken Johnson of the Milam County Sheriff’s Department investigated the death.  Department of Public Safety Trooper David Yarbrough was called to investigate the accident.
