BARTLETT WOMAN KILLED IN MILAM ACCIDENT

(CAMERON)  A Bartlett woman was killed Thursday in an auto accident at the intersection of Farm Roads 486 and 487 south of Pettibone.  Ruth Peterson Claflion (claff-lun), 65, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:02 a.m.  Ms. Claflion was driving a Ford Pickup pulling a horse trailer, traveling east on FM 487 when she ran a stop sign and was hit broadside on the passenger’s side by a northbound Chevy pickup driven by 28 year old Jason Early of Cameron.   According to Trooper David Yarbrough, the collision knocked Claflion’s pickup off the road where it struck a road sign, telephone junction box, power pole and a fence.  Ms. Claflion, a horse trainer, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected and penned under the rear wheel of her vehicle. One of the 4 horses in the trailer was killed, as well.   Milam County Judge Frank Summers conducted the inquest at the scene.   Early was transported to Scott & White Hospital in Temple where he was treated and released Thursday night.

Claflion is Milam County’s 10th traffic fatality of 2004.  The county recorded 8 fatalities in the first two months, and is the first fatality since May 7th when a Houston man died from injuries sustained in an accident on April 9th.
