MAYSFIELD MAN KILLED IN TORNADO

(CAMERON)  A Maysfield man was killed Saturday when his business was hit by severe weather and possibly a tornado.  72 year old Eugene William Mekush was killed  when his shop was struck by an apparent tornado around 6:15 p.m.

Shop owner Johnny Pagach and Mekush were inside the metal building when the tornado struck destroying the shop and causing a large door structure to fall, striking Mekush in the head.  Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Twila Harris pronounced Mekush dead at the scene.  Pagach was not injured.

The weather uprooted trees and damaged several other buildings in the Maysfield community along FM 485.  Local fire departments also responded to several calls for downed power lines, high water and stranded motorists.

KMIL has recorded over 10 inches of rain this month, including 2.79 inches Saturday.  We have exceeded the annual rainfall average for Milam County in less than half the year.  So far in 2004, we’ve received 35.36 inches.
