COUNCIL ACCEPTS SHEGUIT’S RESIGNATION

(CAMERON)  The Cameron City Council during a special meeting Monday night, accepted the resignation of City Manager Janet Sheguit.  Following a 3 ½ hour closed session, the two sides came to an agreement.  Sheguit will continue to be paid her normal salary for the 2 ½ months remaining in the year, as a consultant, but will not have an office at city hall.  The consulting will be done by phone.  Meanwhile, Amy Kopriva will fill in as interim City Manager while the council goes through the hiring process to replace Sheguit.

Mrs. Sheguit came under fire recently after firing Cameron Police Officer Kris Stringer, and placing two other officers, Phillip Anelli and Wes Male on probation.  Anelli was also suspended without pay for 5 days.

The Council, in a special session Friday, reinstated Stringer and voted to pay his lost wages.  The council also reinstated the other two officers, Anelli and Male, and agreed to pay Anelli's wages from the suspension.  The council also cleared the sanctions from all three officers' records.

During a regular meeting last Monday, the council met in closed session for more than 5 hours to evaluate the job performance of Sheguit and Police Chief Leonard Doskicil.

Friday’s special meeting was in part at the request of the three officers’ Attorney Rique Bobbitt so that his clients could air their side of the story to the council.
