(SOLAR ECLIPSE) The eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024, will be a total solar eclipse. It will be the last total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States until 2044. This will be the last total solar eclipse of the century visible in Texas.

A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. People viewing the eclipse from locations where the Moon’s shadow completely covers the Sun – known as the path of totality – will experience a total solar eclipse. The sky will become dark, as if it were dawn or dusk. Weather permitting, people along the path of totality will see the Sun’s corona, or outer atmosphere, which is usually obscured by the bright face of the Sun.
The eclipse begins at 12:20 p.m. on Monday April 8. Over the next hour, the sun will slowly start to disappear behind the moon.
Even though the sun will be obscured, you won`t notice much of a change in the amount of daylight we see. You`ll notice the change when we approach totality,, when the sun is perfectly hidden behind the moon, will start roughly around 1:35 PM and will peak around 1:40 p.m.  ending roughly around 1:45 , depending on where you live.
Be vigilant to protect your eyes and put your eclipse glasses back on before totality ends. Totality may last only a minute or two in some locations. During totality, take a few seconds to observe the world around you. You may be able to see a 360 degree sunset.

Do NOT look at the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer — the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury.

Plan your day. Some tips to consider:   Special glasses are needed to protect your eyes and view the eclipse safely. The glasses are available at local stores and online.
Many schools and local businesses will be closed or have adjusted hours during the eclipse.
Traffic will be heavier than normal, expect strains on traffic and cell service . Consider rescheduling non-emergency appointments or errands, like grocery shopping, to help reduce traffic. If you are driving make sure your gas tank is full.
Do not stop on the roadway or the shoulder of the roads to get a view of the eclipse from your car.
Do Not Park or Idle Vehicles, ATV`s, RV`s  over tall  grass or vegetation
