INMATE JAILED FOR MURDER INDICTED FOR PUNCHING GUARD2013-01-25

(BELTON) A man being held in Bell County Jail on murder charges has been indicted for assaulting a jail guard.

Clifton Montague, 27, was indicted for Assaulting a Public Servant in relation to a November incident in which he punched a prison guard in the face. The guard involved told officers that inmates were being escorted from one area of the jail to a recreation area when Montague and other inmates became irate. Court records indicate that Montague threatened the guard before punching him in the face.

Montague is behind bars in connection to the October 11, 2012 shooting death of Latterance Deshawn Newsome. He was arrested in Killeen a day after the shooting. Investigators were able to determine that Newsome had visited an apartment when he and Montague began to argue, at which point Montague pulled a gun and allegedly shot Newsome to death.
