ACADEMY COACH RELIEVED OF DUTIES2009-11-03

(ACADEMY)  Academy head football coach Royce McAdams was relieved of his coaching duties Monday, and placed on one week paid administrative leave.  McAdams will remain as the district`s athletic director, but will not be at school this week, or on the sidelines for the game Friday night.

Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles said it is an internal personnel matter and would not comment beyond that.

McAdams was in his 7th season at Academy and 3 victories short of 200 for his career.  McAdams said he believes the decision was made based on an incident that occurred during Friday night`s home game against Rogers.

He told the Temple Telegram he mouthed an obscenity at a heckler.  He said he wished he hadn`t done it, but that he didn`t say anything vocally and wasn`t trying to cause a commotion.

McAdams said he hopes there is enough positive things he`s done to outweigh that one bad decision.

McAdams is 36-37 at Academy, and 197-99-1 overall.  Assistants Quincy McMurtry and Tim Butler will handle the offensive and defensive play calls during the Bee`s season finale Friday night in Florence.
