(CAMERON) Funeral services have been set for long-time Milam County Extension Agent, Chris Holcombe. Holcombe died at her home Thursday.
Services will be held this morning at 10:30 at the First United Methodist Church in Cameron. Holcombe worked for 35 years in the Milam County Extension office as the County Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences under the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service. She was awarded the Texas 4H Meritorious Service Award and was also named the Cameron Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year in 2010.
After retiring, Chris volunteered through the First United Methodist Women, Republican Women of Milam County, Cameron Lions Club, Cameron ISD Foundation, Cameron Arts & Service League, Friends of the Cameron Public Library, Little River Basin Master Gardeners, and Cameron ISD Campus Advisory Board. She was 66.
SUNDAY SNOOK SHOOTING
(SNOOK) Burleson County authorities say 1 person is in custody following an early morning shooting Sunday.
Burleson County Sheriff`s Office says 19-year-old Broderick Grba is held on a charge of Murder. There is no bond set.
According to the Sheriff`s Office, deputies responded about 2:30AM Sunday to Cotton Village Apartments on FM60 in Snook. Deputies arrived to find 1 person dead and 2 others wounded. The 2 wounded men were taken to a Bryan hospital. The names of the victims and their conditions have not yet been released by officials.
Authorities said Texas Rangers are now assisting in the investigation. No other details have been released.
POLICE REQUEST ASSISTANCE IN FINDING WANTED FUGITIVE
(TEMPLE) Temple Police are seeking the public`s help in locating a suspect in a child sexual assault case.
Arthur Jay Morgan, 51 of Temple, remains at large, wanted on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.
According to Police, the charges stem from a series of sexual assaults of a 7-year-old girl. Police say the girl told authorities in late December that she had been inappropriately touched under her clothing by Morgan. Officers obtained a warrant for Morgan`s arrest, but have been unable to locate him. He has a previous conviction on similar charges. Investigators ask anyone with information on Morgan`s whereabouts to call Police at 254-298-5500.
CAMERON CITY COUNCIL TO MEET
(CAMERON) The Cameron City Council is set to meet today at 5:30pm in the City Council Chambers to consider and possibly take action regarding late charges on County Water Bills. The Council will also consider and possibly take action on the November 2012 Financial Report.
Again the Regular meeting is scheduled for today at 5:30pm in the City Council Chambers.
BENEFIT TOURNAMENT FOR INJURED MARLIN PD CHIEF
(MARLIN) The Marlin Police Department is set to host a benefit basketball tournament this month to aid their injured Police Chief.
Chief Darrell Allen was seriously injured in a 1-vehicle wreck back in November. Proceeds from the tournament will go to medical expenses. The One City One Team Basketball Tournament is scheduled to begin January 12th at Noon at Marlin High School Gym.
Teams paid an entry fee to participate. Admission to the games will be free, and concessions and raffle tickets will be available.
Police Chief Darrell Allen spent roughly a week in Intensive Care at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco after suffering serious injuries during an early morning rollover accident near Marlin almost 2 weeks ago. Chief Allen is headed to a rehab facility in Austin to recuperate.
Department of Public Safety troopers say the accident happened about 2AM November 16th on TX6 just north of Marlin. Troopers say Allen lost control of his SUV, which left the road and rolled several times. Allen, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.
SKYWARN TRAINING DATE SET
(ROCKDALE) The 2013 SKYWARN Severe Weather program has been set for Monday, January 14th in Rockdale from 7-9 p.m. at the Rockdale Fire Department Meeting room in partnership with Milam County Emergency Management.
The program will discuss thunderstorm formation, ingredients and features associated with severe storms. The presentation will also review tornado formation and behavior. The program will run for two hours.
Mark Fox, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the Fort Worth National Weather Service Office said the program is free and open to the public. No advanced registration is necessary. The Milam County meeting is one of over 60 training sessions that the office will conduct between January and March.
YOEMEN FALL TO ACADEMY
(CAMERON) After dropping their district home opener last week, the Cameron Yoe basketball team tripped on the road over the weekend.
The Yoemen dropped their contest to Little River-Academy Saturday by a score of 58-39.
Next up for Yoe and Lady Yoe are home contests against Lexington. Those games will be broadcast live here on KMIL.
