NEW DA TO SEEK DEATH PENALTY IN 2011 SHOOTING2013-02-21


(CAMERON) Milam County`s new District Attorney has announced this week he will seek the death penalty against a man charged in a 2011 murder.

DA Bill Torrey informer District Judge John Youngblood this week that he`ll seek the death penalty against Brandon Charles Cotton, who was charged with capital murder in connection to the 2011 shooting death of Sandra Phillips of San Gabriel. Torrey said attorneys will have a hearing at 1:30PM Monday to schedule jury selection and possibly set a trial date.

Phillips was shot and killed in April 2011 during a home invasion/robbery at her home off FM486 in San Gabriel. Authorities arrested Tanner Aaron Baker and Brandon Charles Cotton in connection to the incident. Baker is also charged with capital murder, though Torrey has indicated no decision has been made in his case regarding the death penalty.
