Barbara Smitherman Hudson
Barbara LaJuan Smitherman Hudson, age 90 of Cameron, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday April 23.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm Tuesday, April 29, at Marlow Baptist Church of Cameron with pastor Wayne Kirk officiating. Graveside service will follow at Oakhill cemetery in Cameron. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service beginning at 12 pm at Marlow Baptist Church.
Barbara was born in 1934 to Leland and Leona Walton. She was a graduate of Yoe High School, and a lifelong resident of Cameron.
She married Eugene Smitherman in May 1954. They were married 43 years until his death in 1997. She married again in 2005 to Ken Hudson of Canada.
Barbara worked as manager of the Cameron Chamber of Commerce for many years and she was very instrumental in Cameron’s Urban Renewal Project of the 1970’s. In the 1980’s, she would become a licensed real estate broker and own and operate Smitherman Real Estate in Cameron for more than a decade.
Barbara had a great love for people and for ministry. She was involved in many areas of the life of her church and her community. She served for many years at First Baptist Church, Cameron and was especially fond of her days working with the church youth. Later in her life she would attend Marlow Baptist Church where she loved to worship with her beloved church family.
She is survived by Ken Hudson of Canada, her three children, Jeff Smitherman and wife Karen of Tyler; Joe Smitherman and wife Shari of Belton; and Julie Stermer and husband Andy of Cameron. Nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Smitherman in 1997, and by her sister Edith Barron.
