Pedro Resendez Leija

(GROVE)    Pedro Resendez Leija, affectionately known as Pete, peacefully departed this life on May 6, 2025, at his home in Temple, Texas. Born on August 11, 1957, in Grove, Texas, Anastacio and Corina Resendez Leija. Pete’s life was one marked by love, hard work, and a deep commitment to his family.

Pete dedicated over three decades of his life to the workforce, initially serving at Texas Hydraulics before working for HEB until his retirement in 2019. His unwavering dedication to his profession exemplified his role as a provider, ensuring that the needs of his family were always met. He took great pride in being a family man, often working multiple jobs to support his loved ones.

He attended Moody High School, Pete embraced his passion for sports early on, particularly through playing football. A loyal Chicago Bears fan, he enjoyed sharing memories of the games and engaging in lively debates about his favorite teams. Beyond football, Pete had a fondness for wrestling on Monday nights and cherished the thrill of riding rides at theme parks, activities that allowed him to bond with his family.

In March of 1977, Pete met the love of his life, Patty Aguallo. Their marriage stood as a testament to their shared commitment; together they created a loving home where their two sons, Marco A. Leija and his wife Sherri, and Juan Gabriel Aguallo, were raised with care and support. As a family, they found joy in attending bingo nights and watching movies, creating countless cherished memories along the way.

Pete was proud of his sons’ successes and delighted in being a devoted grandfather to his seven grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to cheer them on, attending events ranging from cheer competitions to baseball games. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he reveled in the simple pleasures of life, often sitting outside enjoying music.

Those who knew Pete recognized him as a man of strong opinions and vivid storytelling. He was always willing to share his thoughts and experiences with others, leaving a lasting impression on his family and friends. Throughout his life, he was known for his willingness to help those in need, a reflection of his generous spirit.

Pete is survived by his sons, Marco A. Leija and wife Sherri, Juan Gabriel Aguallo; three brothers, Thomas Lija and wife Yang, Andrew Leija, Eusavio Jr. Reyes and Margaret Reyes; two sisters, Santos and Lionel Aviles; Sr., Rachel Leija; and his beloved seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 43 years, Patty Aguallo; four brothers, Savas Leija, Frank Leija, Jose Leija, Mike Leija; and two sisters, Anita Hejl and Theodora Quinteros.

Pedro Resendez Leija will be remembered for his profound love for his family and the joy he brought into their lives. His legacy is one of hard work, devotion, and a heart full of love, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know him.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 1:00p.m. in Young’s Daughters Funeral Home with a Burial at Hillcrest Cemetery following.
