(CAMERON)  Milam County WIC Office  908 Nth Crocket Ave, Cameron will be closed Friday.
(CAMERON)  The Cameron Independent School District Board of Trustees, at June 2, 2025 Board meeting, named Dr. Mistie Dakroub as a finalist for superintendent. By law, the board must now wait21 days before voting to hire Dakroub to be the new superintendent for Cameron ISD/ Dakroub is slated to replace the outgoing Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles.

The Board selected six candidates for the initial interview and then two applicants were invited back for a second interview. The Board is scheduled to vote to offer a contract to Dakroub on June 24, 2025.  Dakroub has served as the Cameron ISD Assistant Superintendent since 2019.

 

The Westphalia Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a Community-Wide Garage Sale at the Westphalia Parish Hall Pavilion, State Highway 320, Westphalia on Saturday June 7th, 2025 from 7am to Noon.  BOOTH SPACE IS FREE.  To obtain a booth space or be placed on a map–contact Brian Wilde @  254-718-6764.  Sausage wraps and drinks will be available for purchase from the Knights of Columbus.

(CAMERON)  The “March for Jesus” will be held this year on Saturday, June 7 and everyone is encouraged to walk.  The March will start at 10am in the New Beginnings parking lot at 1805 West 4th Street in Cameron.  After the March walkers and non-walkers will have a Jesus Rally in the sanctuary. Once again everyone is invited to the Jesus Rally following the “March for Jesus” on Saturday, June 7th.

There are presently 3 candidates for the position.

(THRALL)    The public is invited to learn more about the latest trends in cotton production, rural water resources and youth agricultural safety at this year’s Stiles Farm Field Day on June 10 in Thrall.

The Stiles Farm Field Day offers participants a look at crops and new technology.   The event is set for June 10 in Thrall. (Hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife extension service) the event will be from 4:15-8:15 p.m. at the Stiles Farm Foundation, 5700 Farm-to-Market Road 1063. No preregistration is required. In-person registration begins at 4:15 p.m.

Two  general continuing education units, CEUs, will be available for private pesticide applicator license holders. There is no charge.   A catered dinner will be provided by local agribusiness sponsors.

Agriculture and fire safety demonstrations for area youth

The program will feature farm equipment and fire safety demonstrations by the Williamson County Emergency Services District 10 firefighters and a make-and-take plant project.

A water slide and snow cone machine will be available during the safety program, and youth are encouraged to bring swimwear and sunscreen.

Field tour agenda   The producer-focused farm tour will begin loading at 5:15 p.m. onto air-conditioned buses provided by the Thrall Independent School District and will stop at four locations. Topics include:

  • Autonomous Tractor Technology Demonstration ,   Hot Topics in Corn and Grain Sorghum
  • Rural Water Resources ,  Low-Input Cotton Production and Grain Market Update

Following the tour, Welch will provide a grain market update during dinner.

(Williamson and Milam counties)    Well water screening offered June 12-13  Residents of Brushy Creek watershed, well owners near Thrall, Georgetown and Taylor invited

The Texas Well Owner Network, TWON, will host water screenings in the Brushy Creek Watershed June 12-13 for residents in Williamson and Milam counties.

Water samples will be screened for contaminants, including total coliform bacteria, E. coli, nitrate-nitrogen and salinity.

“The TWON program was established to help well owners become familiar with Texas groundwater resources, septic system maintenance, well maintenance and construction, and water quality and treatment,” said Joel Pigg, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service program specialist and TWON coordinator, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Bryan-College Station.

The program allows well owners to learn more about improving and protecting their community water resources.

Water sampling and meeting information

Residents can drop off water samples on June 12 from 8:30-10 a.m. at the following locations:

  • Stiles Farm Foundation headquarters, 5700 Farm-to-Market Road 1063, Thrall.
  • AgriLife Extension office for Williamson County, 100 Wilco Way, Suite 201, Georgetown.

A follow-up meeting to explain the results of the screenings, as well as basics on water wells, aquifers, septic systems and water treatment, will be held from 1-5 p.m. at the Dickey Gross Community Center, 1015 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Taylor.

15th Annual Central Texas Stocker Cattle Program
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, McLennan County along with Extension Beef and
Forage Committee’s in Bell, Bosque, Coryell, Falls, Hill, Limestone and McLennan Counties
will host the 15th Annual Central Texas Stocker Cattle Program on Wednesday, June 25th                                           from 8:00 am- 2:30 pm at the West Auction Barn, 206451 I-35 N Frontage Rd. West, TX 76691.

The morning will start with breakfast provided by Ag Trust Farm Credit. Dr. Henry Hilscher and
Zach Zoeller, Livestock Nutrition Center will discuss Transition, Background, Supplemental
Feeding of Stockers; Brian Uptmore, Auctioneer and Manager, West Livestock Auction will
provide a Live Cattle Demonstration while speaking on how to Produce a #1 Calf; Dr. Sonja
Swiger, Professor and Extension Entomology Specialist will lead a discussion on Managing
External Parasites on Cattle; Dr. Tom Hairgrove, Professor and Extension Veterinary Specialist
will present on Diagnosing Stocker Cattle Wrecks; Matt Kubala, ADT Technical Inspector,
Texas Animal Health Commission, will explain Animal Disease Traceability and give a New
World Screwworm Update; Dr. David Anderson, Professor & Extension Economist will end the
presentations with a Cattle Market Update.

We will conclude the program with Sponsor – Presentations and Door Prize drawings.
Registration will begin at 7:30 am. The cost for this program is $20.00. Two (2) IPM CEU’s will
be offered. Breakfast and a steak lunch are included.

David Greene’s Milam County Brown Santa program that was set up in 2010 by Sheriff David Greene to accept donations and other charitable items to provide Christmas gifts to low-income families throughout Milam County. This program was David Greene’s passion to help children throughout the communities of Milam County. The Brown Santa Program is seeking to honor David’s memory and continue his vision to bring smiles to children and provide them with a happy Christmas, especially those who might otherwise not have a Christmas. Last year was a great year for the program with over 400 children of Milam County served and blessed through the help of our donors.
