❤️🖤💚⭐️ FREEDOM DAY Juneteenth, celebrated TODAY, June 19. Post offices, banks, courts and state offices, city offices and some businesses will be closed on the Juneteenth federal holiday.

1865 – It took more than two-and-a-half years after Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation went into effect for Union troops to land in Galveston, Texas. They carried the message of freedom, the resolution of the Civil War between the States, to the many slaves throughout Texas. Union Major General Gordon Granger read General Order #3: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.

We are all thankful for the recent rains. Unfortunately, the heat is back, and the animals at the Cameron shelter need a replacement fan to keep them cool. One of the fans died. These fans cost around $1500. MTOL will be selling raffle tickets starting Monday, 6/16. The drawing will be held on Friday, 6/20, at the MTOL annual meeting, which is open to the public. You can purchase tickets before or at the meeting. You won’t need to be there to win.

(THORNDALE) San Gabriel Baptist Church will host a family night with a light supper and a movie on FRIDAY June 20 pm beginning at 6 pm. A light supper of hotdogs and homemade ice cream will be served. Immediately after supper, the movie “Courageous “ will be shown. If you are looking for family or Christian entertainment and fellowship, you will enjoy this evening. Everyone is invited! Kids, seniors, single adults, couples: you’re invited! (ROGERS) The City of Rogers has been awarded a$300,000 grant from the Texas Department & Wildlife to revitalize the Jonathan Allison Park. To get the funds they must raise $150,000 match, and it doesn’t have to be cash…. volunteer work, equipment and services all count.

Plans include a Butterfly Garden, a large, modern, inclusive playground. Accessible walking trails, Picnic area perfect for family gatherings.

15th Annual Central Texas Stocker Cattle Program

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, McLennan County along with Extension Beef and

will host the 15th Annual Central Texas Stocker Cattle Program on Wednesday, June 25th from 8:00 am- 2:30 pm at the West Auction Barn, 206451 I-35 N Frontage Rd. West, TX

We will conclude the program with Sponsor – Presentations and Door Prize drawings.
Registration will begin at 7:30 am. The cost for this program is $20.00. Two (2) IPM CEU’s will

David Greene’s Milam County Brown Santa program that was set up in 2010 by Sheriff David Greene to accept donations and other charitable items to provide Christmas gifts to low-income families throughout Milam County. This program was David Greene’s passion to help children throughout the communities of Milam County. The Brown Santa Program is seeking to honor David’s memory and continue his vision to bring smiles to children and provide them with a happy Christmas, especially those who might otherwise not have a Christmas. Last year was a great year for the program with over 400 children of Milam County served and blessed through the help of our donors.
