John Everett Mathews January 10th

 John Everett Mathews   95 of  Temple  died Thursday, January 1st, 2026 at a local hospital in Temple, Texas.

 A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Texas at 10:00 AM, with Rev. William Sterling officiting.

Born July 4, 1930 in Cuba, New York,   Education was important to John, and he graduated from Cuba-Rushford High School,John’s early years were spent working diligently on his family dairy farm, where he developed a strong work ethic that he carried throughout his life. Following his time on the farm, he worked in various roles at a bakery and local furniture companies before enlisting in the military. His professionalism and skill were notably recognized during his tenure at Sears Parts Departments and supervisor to the repairmen after his service. During his time he received many awards to include; Military Unit Awards (like Presidential Unit Citation – PUC, Meritorious Unit Commendations – MUC/RVCM, Valorous Unit Award – VUA/VUA, Air Force awards – AFRESM, AFLSA), individual medals (Silver Star – SSM, Bronze Star – BSM), devices (Oak Leaf Cluster – OLC, Gold Star – GS), other military recognitions (Joint Meritorious Unit Award – JMU/GOM, Republic of Korea PUC – ROKPUC, Korean Service Medal – KSM), and acronyms for specific Units/Commands/Groups (SAEMR, ABOUA, NDSM)

Survived by Agatha “Marie” Mathews, at a Church of Christ in Indiana their 70 years of marriage,  son Mark Mathews,  daughters Deb Mathews-Budet and Pam Mathews and  6 grandchildren

 In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the wounded warriors cause.

  Arrangements are in the care of Young’s Daughters Funeral Home and Bereavement Center in Temple, TX.
