(MILAM) Milam County Fire Marshalls office Crews did a fantastic job last night stopping the spread of a fast moving wind-driven Wildland/Urban Interface Fire off Cummings Rd north of Thorndale. Fire crews from the Thorndale, Bartlett/Davila, Rockdale, Buckholts, Cameron, Williamson County ESD#10, Weir, Lexington, and Hutto communities assisted by Allegiance EMS and Milam County Sheriff’s Office all worked together to limit what could very well have been a conflagration and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
Separately, in another part of the county later in the night, we were faced with an individual selfishly ignoring common sense and illegally burning. Enforcement actions are not something we take lightly. We prefer to educate, build relationships, and help residents find safe and effective ways to accomplish the burning they need to do. But never make the mistake of forgetting the fact that failure to follow the Texas Outdoor Burning Rule is a criminal act. An arrest was made this evening for Violations of Clean Air Act (TX Water Code §7.177) based on failure to follow the Texas Outdoor Burning Rule (30 TAC 111) after one individual with a history of illegal outdoor burning made the decision to burn tires at night unattended, within 300ft upwind of a neighbors home, in 50mph winds, inside the city limits, with smoke blowing across a roadway. Please don’t put those around you in danger, we can and will enforce state law when you recklessly endanger others. This includes making arrests in egregious cases where it becomes necessary to safeguard the public.
