Temperatures Heating up Record breaking temperatures this week.  High temperatures Wednesday near  104° possible  and mid- 90’s the rest of the week for  Limestone, Freestone, Leon, Milam, and Robertson County,  heat index values could be above 100°.

(MILAM) Milam County Sheriffs booked   the jail count is 140

(ROCKDALE )–Rockdale VFD and EMS responded to the scene of an accident at Calhoun and West Cameron in Rockdale, Saturday around noon. An 18 wheeler, driven by 44 years old Jeffery Montgomery of Mississippi hit a Rockdale woman, 26 year old Delia Mendez who was transported to  Scott and White Hospital by EMS. The accident is under investigation by the Rockdale police Department.

 

(TEMPLE) Saturday  The Temple Police Department is investigating a shooting.  Police said officers were called to the 400 block of Cheyenne Drive at 1:19 a.m. for a shots fired call. Officers found one person injured with a mior gunshot wound.   Temple PD said the Temple Police Criminal Investigations Division were investigating. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Temple PD at 254-298-5500 or Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477, where callers can report anonymously.

The Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a vet clinic at the Westphalia Hall Pavilion, State Highway 320,  Westphalia on Monday, May 12th .  The clinic will be from 3pm to 7pm.

Dogs, cats and other small animals can be vaccinated for rabies, parvovirus and any other ailment they may have at a nominal cost.

(ROCKDALE)   The Rockdale County Board of Education is scheduled to vote on a tentative budget of $221 million for fiscal year 2026 at its Thursday May 15 regular session meeting. Approval of the tentative budget sets the stage for public hearings to take place in June.

The fiscal year 2026 budget represents a 4.3% increase compared to fiscal year 2025, with estimated total revenues of $227,139,815. A majority of funding for fiscal year 2026 is coming from local revenues, with less than 50% coming from the state or federal governments.

Total expenditures are estimated at $231.5 million, which is $4.3 million more than estimated revenues. The difference will be covered by the district’s fund balance, which currently has more than $45.7 million in funds.

A public hearing on the budget will be held June 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the board room at the Rockdale County Board of Education building at 960 Pine St. The budget will be considered for final adoption by the board in its meeting on June 19 at 7 p.m.

 

(CAMERON)   Milam Community Theater’s next production are underway. The group will present “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged” May  17 and 18 at the Williams Event Center in Cameron. all of Shakespeare’s plays condensed into about 95 minutes of madcap action.  Sunday’s shows are at 2 p.m. and the curtain rises for the Saturday, May 17 at 7 p.m. Tickets for these shows are available at the door or in advance at the theater’s website.
