***(TEXAS) New laws for schools, Public school districts are now required to enforce a personal device (Phones, Watches all electrical devices) ban for students during school hours. Gov. Abbott signed HB 1481 into law on Sunday. It requires school district policy to either ban personal devices from campuses entirely or mandate students to lock them away.
Several new Texas school laws have recently taken effect or will soon, including a ban on mobile phones during school hours and a requirement to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms. Additionally, a School Of Choice will launch in late 2026.
2. Ten Commandments Display: What it is: Senate Bill 10 requires schools to post a specific version of the Ten Commandments in each classroom. Implementation: The display must be at least 11 by 16 inches and can be a poster or framed copy. The law goes into effect on September 1st.

(Milam Community Theater) Due to a variety of unfortunate circumstances, performances of Milam Community Theater’s summer production, Neil Simon’s “I Ought to be in Pictures,” has been moved back two weeks. The show will play one weekend only, Friday Aug. 15, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17, at the Williams Event Center in Cameron.
The heart-warming comedy features Samara Garrett as Libby, a headstrong young woman from Brooklyn who impulsively hitchhiked to Hollywood to visit her long-estranged screenwriter father, Herb.
Herb, a cynical, unemployed screenwriter with commitment issues, is played by newcomer James Pettyjohn, who is in an on again, off again relationship with Steffy, played by Kelita Thomas. a make-up artist who wants more of a commitment.
