(ROCKDALE)  Rockdale ISD Announces 2026 Distinguished Alumni Inductees
– Rockdale Independent School District is proud to announce the 2026 Distinguished Alumni inductees, recognizing five outstanding graduates whose achievements reflect the
lasting impact of a Rockdale ISD education.

Established in 2019, the Rockdale ISD Distinguished Alumni Program honors former students who have
excelled in their professional fields, demonstrated strong leadership, and positively influenced their
communities.

This year’s honorees represent a diverse and accomplished
group whose careers and service exemplify the values instilled through their educational experiences in
Rockdale ISD.
The 2026 Distinguished Alumni inductees include:

Dr. Diana Gonzales Worthen, Rockdale High School Class of 1979, is being recognized for her contributions
in education and politics. An educator, advocate, and public servant with more than 35 years of experience, Dr.
Gonzales Worthen currently serves in the Arkansas House of Representatives. She is the first Latina legislator
in the state’s history and has dedicated her career to expanding educational access, strengthening civic
leadership, and supporting diverse communities through public service.

Tamara S. Hebert-Powell, Rockdale High School Class of 1982, is being honored for her work in business
and public service. A national leader in public administration and wellness, Powell serves as Director of
Refundable Credits Examination Operations for the Internal Revenue Service, where she provides oversight
for more than 1,100 employees nationwide. In addition to her federal service career, she is a licensed
practitioner of Oriental Medicine, an author, and the founder of multiple scholarships benefiting Rockdale ISD
students.


Dr. Tommye Cashaw-Austin, Rockdale High School Class of 1982, is being recognized for her contributions
to the field of medicine. A nationally respected healthcare executive, nursing leader, and inventor, Dr.
Cashaw-Austin holds advanced degrees in nursing, business administration, and a Ph.D. in Nursing. She
currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive, leading nursing practice and strategy
across major health systems. Her work has earned national recognition for improving patient outcomes,
advancing nursing excellence, and shaping the future of healthcare leadership.


The district also recognizes Brooks Bassler, Rockdale High School Class of 1997, for his achievements in
business. A successful entrepreneur and member of the Rockdale Athletics Hall of Honor, Bassler is the
founder and owner of BB’s Tex-Orleans, a growing Texas-based restaurant group. He remains actively
invested in Rockdale through continued support of local athletics and community revitalization initiatives.


Rounding out this year’s class is Abbie Ferguson, Rockdale High School Class of 2000, honored for her
contributions in education, public service, and faith-based outreach. Ferguson is an educator and international
ministry leader who founded EWay Ministry in Ukraine, blending English instruction with humanitarian support
to serve thousands of individuals and families. She continues her work in Texas, supporting families through
education, stability, and community-focused programs.

The 2026 Rockdale ISD Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at
Rockdale High School. The event will feature a question-and-answer session with current students, individual
tributes recognizing each inductee, and an opportunity for the community to celebrate the remarkable
accomplishments of these alumni.
