Milam County's War Dead Remembered

(CAMERON)  Around 60 people gathered at the northeast corner of the courthouse lawn today today pay tribute to Milam County veterans who died who were killed in battle.

Milam County District Judge Ed Magre offered an emotional personal account of what Memorial Day is all about.  "In Hillsboro, Missouri, there is a monument very much like this one...there is a difference though.  The one in Missouri has a name on it three times, and this name is listed more than any other.  It is the name of Magre.  One for my father Peter, one for my cousin Joe, and one for my cousin Jimmy."  Magre said Memorial Day has been a very special day for his family.  "A time of rememberance, a time of sadness, but also a time of pride". Dwight Jekel presented the names of more than 200 Comrades that are enraved on Milam County's War Dead Memorial.
