3 Killed in Rosebud Mishap

(ROSEBUD) Falls County authorities worked throughout the morning Wednesday to pull a pickup out of a wet weather creek north of Rosebud that killed three people. Pronounced dead at the scene was the driver, 20 year old Mathew "Matt" Luedke of Rosebud, and his passengers, Tabetha Doty age 20, and Camron Ryan, 18 both of Robinson. Although the truck wasn’t found until 8 a.m. Wednesday, investigators believe the accident happened around midnight Tuesday. The three were traveling north on Falls County Road 343 just off Hwy 53 when the truck they were in veered off the wet gravel road. Weather in the area at the time was rainy and foggy. The right tires missed the bridge that had no guard rails, and the truck flipped and plunged upside down into the creek. Two of the three bodies remained in the truck until late morning when members of the Morgan’s Point Dive Team arrived to participate in the recovery. DPS Trooper Alan Hill of Falls County was in charge of the investigation. Rosebud Firemen and Falls County EMS workers assisted at the scene, along with Falls County Sheriff's Deputies.

Luedke, the son of Larry and Beverly Luedke of Rosebud, was a 1999 honor graduate at Rosebud_Lott High School where he participated in baseball, football, track and basketball. He was a member of the 1998 and 1999 Rosebud-Lott State Tournament Baseball teams. And was currently a junior economics major at the University of Texas in Austin.

Miss Ryan was a student at McClennen Community College in Waco. Miss Doty was also listed as a student.

Funeral services for Luedke are set for 10 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church in Rosebud with burial in Woodland Cemetery in Rosebud.

(Left and above)  Chains from two separate wreckers were hooked to the rear axle in preparation of raising the truck from the flood waters.  (Below)  Recent heavy rains resulted in flood waters beneath the bridge.
