School Board Ponders Bond Issue
(CAMERON) The Cameron School Board met with architect Jim Booher last night and discussed 9 projects to upgrade the Yoe High School campus. Combined, project costs are estimated at between $5.8 and $6 million. The renovation of Yoe High School, commonly known now as "Yoe Main", would be the dominant project at an estimated cost of $2.69 million. Included would be a complete wall to wall, and floor to ceiling renovation of the school, the addition of a 4-stop elevator, New heating and air conditioning, windows, electrical, and the restoration of the auditorium with seating for some 350 to 400.
The district could qualify for up to two-thirds of the cost of the projects through state instructional facilities allotment funds. If a bond issue is passed for the total amount, with the state funds anticipated, the districts portion of the cost would require a 7 cent increase in property taxes. Trustees have stated that no bonds would be issued without the IFA funds from the state. The board will consider calling for a bond election during their next regular meeting, which is set for Monday, March 5th.
