LA MARQUE WOMAN IS MILAM’S 8TH TRAFFIC FATALITY OF YEAR

(BUCKHOLTS)  A La Marque woman became Milam County’s 8th traffic fatality of the year Monday evening.  Loretta Brooks Alcorn is another victim in the long list of traffic fatalities on the stretch of Hwy 36 between Cameron and the Bell County line.  Ms. Alcorn was transported to Scott & White Hospital in Temple by STAT-Air following the head-on collision around 5:30 Monday afternoon.  She was pronounced dead at the hospital at 9:48 p.m.

According to investigating trooper Craig Caden, Alcorn crossed the center stripe and struck a vehicle head-on driven by Nicole Kummer of College Station.  Following the collision, Ms. Kummer’s vehicle rolled, however she was treated and released at Scott & White following the wreck.  According to DPS reports, both victims were wearing seat belts.

Fire Departments from Cameron, Buckholts and Rogers all responded along with Scott & White EMS out of Cameron and STAT-Air.  Trooper Caden was assisted by Trooper Jimmy Morgan.

Ms. Alcorn is the first fatality here in the county since July when two fatal wrecks occurred.  On the 3rd 20 year old Derick Dunaway, stationed at Witchata Falls in the Air Force, was killed in a motorcycle accident north of Cameron on Hwy 77.  (See story)  And on July 11th, a Maysfield man, James Lee Grier, was killed in a 1-vehicle rollover on FM 979 a mile north of Jones Prairie.
