(Cameron) In the beginning, there was a tennis
"challenge" in the summer of 2000, featuring KMIL's Breakfast
Club host Rob Reed, in which The Robber ultimately declared... "He
beat me bad!" As Reed lost 12 games to 1 to a
man known only to Central Texans as "Tommy the Tennis
Pro". On the plus side for Reed, the tennis match did benefit
the Central Texas Hospital Auxiliary, in raising some much needed money.
Now
comes another athletic-related challenge. Earlier in January, KMIL
play by play man and staff meteorologist Chris Ormston (pictured left) and
No Name Sports Show co-host Reed (no pictures allowed) discussed the
upcoming Yoe Lady softball season. Being new to the Cameron area,
Ormston posed the question to Reed..."How is the pitching this
season?" Reed responded by talking about Jr. hurler Candace
Culpepper, who helped lead the 2000 Lady Yoe to the second round of the 3A
state playoffs a year ago. It was then that "The
Challenge" was born. Ormston, self proclaimed midget
league MVP, proudly boasted that he could hit her. And the challenge
was on! During a radio Sports Show Ormston and KMIL
personality James Dickson put the poll to the KMIL listeners, and the poll
overwhelmingly voted in favor of Culpepper in the challenge. In
Addition, several callers expressed a willingness to
donate money to charity for this event... Even Ormston said he
would donate $20 for every strike against him. So it looks like even
if Chris strikes out (and he probably will), someone will
benefit... Cast your vote, and make a donation
(optional) to the Yoe High Softball Program.
