Restoration Gears Back up

(CAMERON)  Following a 3 week delay due to concerns of cost overruns, the Milam County Courthouse Restoration Project is back underway, thanks to the generosity of many who have contributed to the cause.  The Preserve Our Past (POP) Committee reported to Milam County Commissioners on May 14th that contributions have topped $329,000 to cover the more than $600,000 shortfall.  As of today, that figure is over $350,000.  Commissioners agreed during their May 14th meeting to proceed with the project, stipulating that complete restoration be done.  Following the announcement of the overruns, commissioners looked at cutting some sections of the restoration to bring the project to within budget.

Largest donors as listed by the POP Committee:

Wayne Fisher $50,000
Mark Humble $50,000
Drayton McLane $50,000
Andy Waters & Kraus (Dallas attorneys with local offices) $50,000
Regan Silber & Trevor Pearlman (Dallas law firm) $50,000
Carroll Glaser (Law practice in Cameron and Rockdale) $20,000
Citizens National Bank of Milam County $15,000
First National Bank in Cameron $15,000
Buckholts State Bank $10,000
Jim Camp $10,000
Mike Goains $10,000
Stanley Mandel, Iola $10,000
Mike Perrin $10,000
Harry Perrin $10,000

According to POP Finance and Publicity Chair Betty French, the funds were raised in two weeks from the time the overrun was announced.  French said "hometown boys do good, and remember their roots."
