Maxie Morgan Named Interim Superintendent

(CAMERON)  Long-time Business Manager and Cameron ISD Administrator Maxie Morgan was a unanimous choice by the Cameron School board Monday night to fill the superintendent's chair left vacant with the resignation of Doug Koebernick.  The board met in a 90 minute closed session with Morgan before convening back in to open session to make the appointment.

In a 6-hour executive session last Thursday, the board hashed out a resignation agreement with Koebernick who still had one year left on his initial 3-year contract.  (see story)  Details of the agreement are expected to be released later this week when minor details are worked out and both Koebernick and Board President Gene Vaculin sign the agreement.  The board has offered no comment as to the reasons for the arrangement with Koebernick.

Morgan has been with Cameron ISD for 32 years.  He began his career with the district in 1969 as a teacher and coach.  After 4 years, he became a Director of Federal Programs for the district for 7 years.  He then served as High School Principal for 4 years before being named to his current position of Business Manager.  He has held that title for 19 years.

Morgan said "it's a great honor to be selected as interim superintedent of the Cameron Independent School District.  I've worked in the system for 32 years, it's one of the finest school systems in the state, and we want to continue that Yoeman tradition and carry the Yoeman tradition forward. Just looking forward to the challenge, looking forward to working with the staff.  I think our staff is an excellent staff, some of the finest teachers anywhere.....and we're going to have a great year in Cameron Texas this year."

Vaculin said the appointment is that of a permanent interim position in that the board will not immediately seek to fill the post.  Vaculin said "we are not going to rush into this....we thought we needed to have a superintendent in place when school started last time...We are going to take applications through January, if not a little later than that, to make sure we get quality people to choose from."  Vaculin said after the resignation agreement with Koebernick is signed, the board will begin advertising and publishing the position, and applications will be taken at least through January.  Vaculin said the board hopes to possibly name a new superintendent by mid March or early April.

Morgan's agreement with the district will include a daily stipend in addition to his regular salary as Business Manager.  The stipend will end when the position is permanently filled.

Board President Gene Vaculin announces the board's choice to name Maxie Morgan Cameron ISD's interim superintendent.
