WATSON SIGNS WITH HENDERSON STATE (ARKADELPHIA) A former Yoe High Football standout has signed with Henderson State to play football on scholarship. Ross Watson, who helped Blinn College to 2 consecutive playoff appearances including a 9-2 season last fall, and a final ranking of 7th nationally, has transferred to Henderson State in Arkadelphia Arkansas to play for his old Coach. Scott Maxfield, who coached three years at Blinn took the head job at Henderson State before Christmas. He told KMIL News that he offered Ross a full scholarship. Maxfield said Watson was one of the most intense players he has coached, and said he intends to start Watson this fall. He said Watson is up to about 305 lbs and will play noseguard for the Reddies. Watson earned honorable mention all-conference honors his sophomore year at Blinn. After leading Blinn College to back-to-back playoff appearances, Henderson State University named Maxfield as head coach of the Reddies in December. Maxfield was chosen from a field of 70 applicants. Maxfield and Watson will be charged with turning around a program that has won only 6 games in the past 2 years. The college has an enrollment of about 3500 students. |
