LONG-TIME CISD TRUSTEE UNSEATED

(CAMERON)  Long-time Cameron School Board member and President Gene Vaculin was unseated in Saturday's School Board Election.  Vaculin, a CISD trustee for 15 years, and Board President the past 7 years, was a distant 3rd in the race for 2 at-large seats on the board.  Incumbent Wyllene Stanislaw led all candidates with 479 votes.  Newcomer Larry Green was also elected to the board with 476 votes.  Vaculin received 184 votes while newcomer Scott Leonard received 154 votes. 

A total of 705 people voted in the CISD Trustee Election.

 

Elsewhere in city and school elections...

(CAMERON)  In the Cameron City Election, Incumbent Cliff Cryer received 50 votes to win re-election.  His challengers, David Harwell and Gladys Lee received 35 and 13 votes respectively.  Unopposed council members Alvin Lynn Roberts in Ward 3, and Dan Green in Ward 5, received 32 and 16 votes respectively.

Voters in Cameron overwhelmingly approved a tax freeze for elederly and disabled residents.  The proposition passed 273 to 73. 

 
(ROCKDALE)  Rockdale West Ward incumbent Ray McClain was re-elected to the  Rockdale City Council received 106 votes to challenger Darrell Grear's 14 votes.  A total of 120 ballots were cast in the election.  East Ward councilman Gerry Offield was unopposed in his bid for re-election.
 
(MILANO)  In one of the busiest ballots in the area, the Milano School Board race featured 10 candidates seeking 2 seats on the board.  Top vote getters were Catrina Steinbecker and John Paniagua with 54 and 51 votes respectively.  Edward Westbrook and Brian Gage each received 42 votes; Lynn Martin received 39 votes; Jay Willingham 38; Ronald Davenport 34; Alton Bell, Sr. and Karl Westbrook each received 29 votes; and Scott Malovets recieved 6 votes. 
 
(MILANO)  Incumbents were re-elected to the Milano City Council during Saturday's election.  Carol Newman and Henry Dykes received 51 and 49 votes respectively. Also elected to the council was newcomer Sara Myers-Keno with 32 votes.  Rodney Gage, the 4th candidate in the election, received 25 votes.
 
(BUCKHOLTS)  In the Buckholts City Council Election, newcomer Mary Helen Rodriguez Webster was the top vote-getter with 56 unseating incumbent Ernest Cowan with 24 votes.  Incumbent Wilburn Beckhusen was also re-elected with 31 votes.  Eleanor Salomon received 17 votes.
 
(BUCKHOLTS)  In the Buckholts School Board Election, Newcomer James Pollard was the top vote-getter with 74 votes.  Incumbent A. W. Zajicek Jr. was also re-elected with 59 votes.  Other candidates were Sebastian Cazares with 43 votes and Eric Solomon with 14.
