MILANO MAN DROWNS IN BRUSHY CREEK

(ROCKDALE)  The body of a 31-year-old Milam County man who drowned Sunday was recovered after a six-hour search Sunday evening near Rockdale.

The Milam County Sheriff's Office said they received a call at 1:30 p.m. from the drowning victim's cousin John Cox. Cox said he and Thomas Lane Reese, had gone fishing in Brushy Creek north of County Road 304, according to a statement from Sheriff Charles West.

Cox said he and Reese, 31, were walking along the bank of the creek when he heard a splash and then saw Reese’s ball cap floating downstream.  Cox stated that he did not see Reese enter the water and after attempts to locate him, he called authorities.

The search lasted most of the day until the body was recovered around 7:45 p.m.  Justice of the Peace O.C. Dunsmoor pronounced Reese dead at the scene.  The property on which the incident occurred is owned by William Dockall of Rockdale.

The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department conducted search operations with assistance from Game Warden's Mike Mitchell and Travis Allen, Constables David Greene and Herbie Vaughn along with West, Chief Deputy Ted Retchloff and Investigator Greg Kouba and members of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  American Medical Response (AMR EMS) stood by on the scene throughout the day)
