RITA EVACUEES BUMPER TO BUMPER THRU CAMERON

(CAMERON) Gulf Coast residents fleeing the wrath of hurricane Rita continue jamming Hwy 36 thru Cameron. Law agencies have been out the past two days around the clock helping to control the flow of traffic. Traffic has been bumper to bumper since Wednesday evening. Cameron Police have been working hot spots including the red lights. Much of the traffic is turning north on Hwy 77 relieving somewhat, the Hwy 36 traffic west of Cameron. Accidents have also kept area lawmen busy.

Hilltop has been a popular location for evacuees to stretch and fuel up. The business has been slammed with evacuees around the clock since Wednesday night.

Cameron Police reported numerous emergency 9-1-1 calls. Some of the calls involved motorists stalled in traffic without medication. Some elderly nursing home patients who were evacuated via bus, were airlifted from the Minerva area Thursday. Others were escorted to Central Texas Hospital and then on to Temple hospitals.

(ROCKDALE) A Milano couple was killed in a 3-vehicle accident just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday on Hwy 77 in Rockdale. Pronounced dead at the scene were Doris and Ollie Thomas “O.T.” Bullock. The Bullocks were passengers in a vehicle driven by Patricia Long, 45 of Milano. She was transported to Scott & White Hospital in Temple. The other drivers were 35 year old Patrick Njoroge of Houston, and 33 year old Bernardo Magallan, 33 of Bastrop. Njoroge was transported to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin while Magallan was not transported. The Bullocks are Milam County’s 10th and 11th traffic fatalities of the year.

(CAMERON) Cameron Police investigated a 3-vehicle accident at 10:18 a.m. at 6th and Travis. Drivers were Andrew Lopez of Hearne, and Jerry Henderson and John David Thompson both of Cameron. Damage was minor in the chain reaction rear-end collision and no one was hurt.

(ROCKDALE) Rockdale Police investigated a 2-vehicle accident shortly before noon in the 200 block of Bowser. Drivers were 16-year old Katie Roddam and 35 year old Bobby Clark, both of Rockdale. Damage was minor and no one was hurt.

And around 5:30 p.m. a 2-vehicle accident without injuries occurred on Hwy 79 east in front of All-Safe Propane. Drivers were Krysta Montelongo, 18 of Rockdale, and Tyler Judson West, 18 of Midland.

A female occupant was ejected in a 1-vehicle rollover around 12:25 p.m. Thursday on US 190 just east of CR 113. The accident was investigated by Trooper Mark Berry.

At 12:47PM an accident was reported on FM 2027 north of FM979. One victim was airlifted from the scene to Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Trooper Jimmy Morgan investigated.

And at 4:35 p.m. a 3-vehicle accident with injuries occurred on Hwy 36 at CR 344 in Milano. Trooper Mark Berry investigated.

Lawmen also investigated a rash of minor accidents throughout the county.
