COUNTY JAIL PROJECT ON TARGET |
(CAMERON) Workers
started the day early Wednesday pouring concrete in the pre-dawn hours as
the construction continues on the new Milam County Law Enforcement Complex.
The $7.8 million project will include a 166 bed county jail, Sheriff's
Offices, Justice of the Peace Court, and DPS offices including the Drivers
License Office. According to Project Manager Rene Rodriguez of EBCO
General Contractors, the entire project is 18-20 percent complete.
Foundation work began about 3 weeks ago and should be complete by the end of
the month. For the first time Wednesday morning, crews arrived at 3:30
a.m. and began the pour under temporary lighting plants (pictured above)
Rodriguez said another early morning pour is planned for this Saturday.
In addition to foundation work, Rodriguez said all the new offices are framed, utilities are being installed, and masonry work on the outside walls will begin soon. The 50,000 square foot project includes 37,000 square feet of newly constructed detention area, and 13,074 feet of office space, all under the old Newton Hospital roof. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on march 17 of this year (see story). Rodriguez said the project remains on target for a March 2006 completion date. |
